There's not a bad track on it and it was the album that first got me in to Simple Minds in the first place. I agree with you that Sparkle in the Rain was their last good album ("Speed Your Love To Me" is an absolute belter of a track) and New Gold Dream is arguably their most consistently good album. I would highly recommend anyone to check out their earlier work it touches on post-punk, a bit of Prog, new wave, trance, dance and Kraftwerk. Such an underrated band that got lost trying to be commercial and u2 like. Then they lost it, with Once Upon a Time and every album after, went too commercial and trying to be u2 for my liking. Sparkle in a rain is another great album, more stadium rock but with a lush sound. To me, they had a such a great combination of artyness and being commercial, without sacrificing their artistry. A lot of lush synth sounds and underrated guitar work( yes there’s guitars but you would never suspect it’s there. I couldn’t believe they wrote this album. Every song just has an otherworldly sound, it takes me to another universe. New Gold Dream is a dreamy, atmospheric, lush and melancholic masterpiece. They were really arty in their beginnings. I decided to look at their earlier work out of curiosity and my gosh was I shocked at how amazing Simple Minds music were, in particular their album New Gold Dream. A new wave band that people just seem to associate with that song in Breakfast Club ( not a fan of it)
